Start Me Up!
Reaching out to those of you in the early stages of solidifying and launching your business ... did you know that many businesses start up with one or more fatal flaws, before they've even collected the first dollar of revenue?
Many of those businesses launch anyway, its founders encouraged by their friends and family, spending time and money on start-up activities. In some cases, lots of time and money: multi-thousand dollar workshops and "guru" events, self-study courses, video production libraries, software or hardware development, generalized peer advice groups, group coaching.
And for businesses with physical locations, money also gets spent on lease agreements, facility improvements, equipment, furnishings and hiring employees. Well before the first dollar of revenue is collected.
Then more time and money spent on learning how to build email lists, and how to get traffic to the website which isn't even built yet. When it's time to start bringing in revenue, the bucks don't just come flooding in the way the owner thought they would.
Why? Because of the fatal flaws. It would be as if you bought yourself a fast boat, with a powerful engine. You're capable of going faster than anyone else, but you don't realize that you have a couple of holes in the bottom of your boat, taking on water. Those holes slow you down and eventually will sink your boat.
This is what I want to help you with, to discover any holes in your boat and fix them, before you spend all the time and money souping it up with big email lists, traffic to your website, glossy videos, and other things. Or, if you have a brick-and-mortar business, before you spend even more money on floor space, tenant improvements, equipment, inventory, and supplies.
No matter how good your traffic to your website or retail space is, or how many people you have on your email lists, it won't matter if you have fundamental flaws in your business concept.
That's where the big miss happens. Lots of prospective business owners think it's all about the tactics (like email lists, amount of traffic, great looking website, creating a brand, a nice store with nice stuff, etc.). It's not about that.
It's actually about the strategy (understanding exactly what you're selling, who you're selling it to, why they're buying, and whether there's potential). Sure, you eventually need good tactics too, but ...
Without a good strategy, tactics are just a waste of time and money.
Here's a quote about vision (strategy) vs. action (tactics), attributed over the years to at least three different people:
Vision without action is merely a dream.
Action without vision just passes the time.
Vision with action can change the world.
